NW 7.3.0 Portal NWA Restart J2EE

I am trying to restart the J2ee server from NWA Start and Stop Java Instances

It prompts for "OS password"

I enter a known good admin userid and password, but does not accept

We are on NW 7.3.0  on AIX 6.1.  I have to go to the OS (with same user and password) and do stopsap;startsap

Any idea why this may not work?
