km ~system repository

Hi Experts,

I have a question about the ~system repository in KM. What is stored in here? I was checking the folder size and use the report folder size calculation. The report says that there is 35Gb stored in the ~system/wastebasket/..... I like to clean this, but can it do any harm? The dBase is growing and growing, and need to be cleaned.
