HTTP to HTTPS (only for selected services)?

Hello Experts - We use NW Portal 7.02 (J2EE only) to provide browser-based access for services that originate from our ERP 7.02/ECC 6.05 (ABAP-only) system.  The portal services are Web Dynpro ABAP (WDA).  They are configured using Launchpad (LPD_CUST) in the ERP system. Each service selected from the portal opens in a separate browser window and starts a new session.  We also have SPNEGO-based SSO.  So far everything has been HTTP only.
Now we want to use HTTPS, but only for a couple of the services offered in the portal.  What is the best way to implement this type of solution?

SSL has been configured in the ERP backend system.
Here is the method I am trying - does it make sense?  Is there a better/easier way?

- In the portal, make a copy of the system landscape entry for the ERP backend system.  Change the new landscape entry to use a Web AS hostname that supports HTTPS and change Web AS protocol to HTTPS.  Also create a new alias (SAP_ERP_SSL) in this landscape entry.

- In ERP transaction LPD_CUST, locate a service that should use HTTPS and change the alias to: SAP_ERL_SSL.

I am using HTTPWatch to trace the activity.  It seems that this method is working.  I am interested in feedback from the portal community.

Best Regards - Jeff
