Knowledge Management in SAP Enterprise Portal

Overview

Knowledge Management (KM) is the umbrella term for the management of unstructured information - that is, all kinds of documents. The Knowledge Management (KM) capabilities of SAP NetWeaver turn unstructured information into organizational knowledge - an essential function in this age of global e-business.

The business challenge is to transform unstructured information into organizational knowledge by structuring and classifying it in such a way that it becomes assessable and relevant to the enterprise's knowledge workers. Because today's enterprises are increasingly distributed in their operations - often global in scope - there is an urgent need to create a central point of access within the enterprise to manage information and translate it into knowledge for success.

Knowledge Management with SAP NetWeaver provides an opportunity within your organization to "connect those who know with those who need to know". Its functions help companies manage all facets of unstructured information - from collaborative authoring and publishing to advanced search and navigation.
The open KM platform offers user-centric services that provide a single access point to 3rd party repositories and SAP's own content management

The Knowledge Management capabilities include:

  • Document authoring and publishing
  • Version management
  • Powerful search and navigation through taxonomies
  • Intelligent publishing, automatic classification and subscription
  • State-of-the-art business collaboration
  • Flexible and configurable user interface
  • An open framework for applications, content, and services

All of the above capabilities apply to any connected repositories. Most organizations have a heterogeneous landscape where unstructured data is stored, for example, Windows file servers, Lotus Notes, FileNet, IXOS, and SAP DMS. In order to access these repositories using a single point of entry, the Knowledge Management platform comes with an interface that allows you to plug in the most common document repositories using customizing. A well-documented API for this interface even allows you to connect to other repositories on a project basis.

Recording Access to Documents in KM
Would you like to know how often a document has been read? Which author has written the most articles? When a file was renamed or deleted? You can use activity reporting to find the answers to these questions. Activity reporting allows you to record activities in Knowledge Management repositories and subsequently analyze them. For more information, see Recording Access to Documents in KM.

Web Content Management: Web Page Composer in SAP Enterprise Portal

$
0
0

The Web Content Management capabilities of SAP Enterprise Portal are provided by Web Page Composer (WPC). This new tool enables your business users to manage most of the business-relevant WCM tasks (for example creating and updating web sites, pages, and content) in an easy and effective way without the involvement of administrators or portal experts. Only the necessary and technical tasks (for example creating additional page templates, layouts and styles, offering application content) are dedicated to appropriate people in your IT department.

Note: The information on this page focuses on Web Page Composer in SAP Enterprise Portal 7.3.

Overview

Web Page Composer is a tool for business users that facilitates the creation and management of portal pages that can combine business applications with user-generated Web content and static content. In this way, major content creation activities can be performed directly by business users, enabling IT personnel to focus on core tasks and innovation. Web Page Composer provides an intuitive work environment that is fully based on standard portal capabilities. Applications and content can be integrated from SAP and non-SAP sources. Portal pages can be enriched with applications and user-generated, unstructured content such as articles, news, documents, and banners.

In contrast to the more document-centric content provided by KM the tight integration of Web Page Composer with the portal also allows you to use application content (e.g. iViews providing dynamic reports, and stock quotes) on your web pages. This content is directly available via the portal content directory (PCD). In addition, all capabilities of the external facing portal (e.g. light framework page and short URLs) are supported by WPC. This allows the implementation of intranet, extranet and Internet scenarios.

EP 7.5 UI Theme Designer: Displaying BEx reports have missing theme items

$

0

Hey Guys

We are in the process of upgrading from EP 7.4 to 7.5 but we are running into a few issues with BW content in the Portal. Theme Editor is deprecated in 7.5 so we are moving to UI Theme Designer.

Applying an SAP standard theme resolves the issues, but making a clean copy of an SAP standard theme (sap_tradeshow) displays the errors again. Almost feels as if some of the theme files are not copied when you create a copy of the theme.

PS - The BW content works fine, the issues are with the EP theming.

Launching a Business Objects dashboard (that sonnects directly to BEx queries and also stored in BW) in the portal gives the following errors:

DB.png

Launching a BEx query in the portal gives the following errors:

BEx1.png

BEx2.png

We have logged an incident with SAP, and this is some of the details:

We are experiencing this issue with iViews that display BEx content. We are on BW 7.4 SP6. BW is currently not being upgraded. The current problem does not involve BPC.

Section A

To get the error, please follow this note:
1968976 - Many incorrect symptoms on BW portal (Navigation not possible, dropdown does not work, etc.)
or
1. Open SAP GUI
2. Log on to a BW system
3. Browse for a BEx query or dashboards created by SAP Business Objects Dashboards 4.x
2. Double click on the desired query or dashboard to launch it in the Portal.

Section B

Discoveries so far:
- Changing the theme to an SAP standard theme (via url in this case - http(s)://<j2ee_server>:<j2ee_port>/irj/portal?&theme=sap_tradeshow) resolves the issue.

To reproduce the errors:
1. In the Portal, go to UI Theme Designer
2. Copy the SAP standard theme sap_tradeshow and rename the new copied theme to "custom_tradeshow"
3. Without making any changes to the copied theme, set custom_tradeshow as the portal theme (via url: http(s)://<j2ee_server>:<j2ee_port>/irj/portal?&theme=custom_tradeshow)
4. Follow the steps in Section A to launch BW content in the portal.
Result: Errors appear

Summary
An unchanged copy of the SAP standard theme sap_tradeshow displays BW content in the portal with errors (missing files).

Is there a workaround for this? Is there some way we can copy the missing files from the SAP standard theme to our theme? Where are these files stored?

Thanks guys

portal favorites not added in AFP 7.40.9

Hi experts,

I have a problem with the 'add to portal favorites' in EP7.40.9 in an AFP.

First the option in de the framework was unabled , so I enabled it.

When I go to Options and choose the option 'add to portal favorites'  and check my Favorites the option is not added. It doesn't matter where I use the option, on a page or iview, different navigation items, never is a link created under the favorites.

I use the standard AFP under: pcd:portal_content/every_user/general/defaultAjaxframeworkContent/com.sap.portal.afpDesktop

I logged in as an administrator, to be sure that I have the right permissions.

I searched for notes, but so far I couldn't find any with a solution for this problem.

How to solve this?

thanks in advance

Upgrading custom WDJ applications

$

Hi Gurus,

I'm working on EP upgrade from 7.0 to 7.4 and need some clarity regarding the migration of custom WDJ applications which exits currently.

>>What do we do regarding the current NWDI, Products, SC and Tracks which consists of the Developments.

>>How do I migrate this

>>Do we perform the migration task before the EP upgrade or after EP upgrade.

Also I see that the Tracks is only available in DEV EP. There's no CMS configured in QA & PRD Portals but the custom SC are available in PRD portal.

I've gone through may blogs which says regarding rebuilding the DC's by using NWDS 7.3 but no where I got to know about the tracks, when to do this activity, will the current tracks needs to be upgraded or just creating projects in NWDS 7.3 and rebuilding will work.

Please Suggest as I'm struggling a lot.

EP: KM - ZIP Files Corrupted When Downloaded

$

Backdrop: When operating in an Enterprise Portal environment and attempting to download a zip file from KM (Knowledge Management) using Internet Explorer the file appears corrupted and subsequently cannot be opened.

downloads-icon-150x150.png

Testing the Behavior:

  1. Download a *.zip file from Knowledge Management to your local client machine using Internet Explorer
  2. Try to open the downloaded zip file on your local client machine
  3. You are unable to open it receiving the error that the file is invalid or corrupted or you get "Unexpected end of archive"

Why is this happening:

Zip files uploaded into Knowledge Management can have two different MIME types configured under System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Utilities -> MIME Types, either application/x-zip-compressed or application/zip

Compressing the files

  • This mime type can be additionally compressed causing the file to appear corrupted when downloading

Resolution

NeverCompressed.PNG

  1. Check the MIME type of your zip file in the portal by clicking on the context menu of the file and going to Details -> Settings -> Properties
  2. Open the J2EE Visual Administrator tool
  3. Go to "Global Configuration -> Server -> Services -> HTTP Provider -> Properties -> Never Compressed"
  4. Make sure that the MIME type specified for this file in the portal is added to the NeverCompressed list of the HTTP Provider
  5. Also add the file extension to the NeverCompressed list of the HTTP Provider e.g. Add *.zip,application/x-zip-compressed
  6. After making the changes click on the "Update" button

    7. Click on "Save Properties"

    8. Restart the J2EE

Product Catalog showing blank screen

Hello Experts,

We have recently opted for a a patch upgrade to our existing SAP portal landscape and MDM system.

We have 2 portal systems one is MDM portal  which has an url iview pointing to second SRM -MDM portal system.

We have upgraded the SRM -MDM portal system from 7.0 SPS27 to 7.0 SPS32. Likewise the MDM system has been upgraded from 7.0 SPS9 to SPS

12  and  SRM-MDM Catalog UI has also been updated to compatible highest package and it is successfully deployed on SRM-MDM portal WebAs.

The url iview successfully from first portal system calls the second portal system with url as follows:

https://<SRM -MDM  portal system>:<port>/SRM-MDM/SRM_MDM.

Once the call reaches the second portal system  i.e. SRM-MDM portal which connects to MDM system to get the Product catalog it either loads the product catalog after 20 mins or throws a 500 error message.

This behaviour is very random .

We have tried running the ProcurementCatalog7 EHP1 application directly from the SRM-MDM portal AND on entering only the MDM server name and on clicking connect we have  always  observed getting  500 error message .  This is not the case when the url iview is called from first portal or MDM portal system which passes parameters to second portal system  with following url

https://<srm-mdmportal>:<port>webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tc~mdmsrmui/ProcurementCatalog7EHP1

In this case it either loads the product catalog after 20 mins or throws 500 error at times  but not 500 error always  like in previous case

We have checked repository connection, it is successful.

Kindly let me know the following.

1]Apart from deployment of business package for SRM-MDM catalog on portal system do we need to maintain any other configuration in portal system?

2]What could possibly be going wrong?

Regards,

Pooja

Show portal navigation path in location bar

$

Hello Experts,

I want to use Browser favorites in my portal (not Portal Favorites).

In order to do that I need the navigation path in the location bar of the browser.

I have custom TLN (hover) and I changed EPCM.doNavigate(node) to window.top.location="/irj/portal?NavigationTarget="+node and it works.

I want to do the same for DTN without rewriting it.

I downloaded the 'com.sap.portal.navigation.afp.dtn' project, opened the 'dtn_functions.js' and found several references to 'LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate':

top.LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(node,node.getShowType(),'ExecuteLocally=true');

top.LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(node,node.getShowType(),'ExecuteLocally=true');

top.LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(node, showType,'ExecuteLocally=true');

top.LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(node, showType, 'ExecuteLocally=true');

LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(linkTarget, linkShowType, null, null, link.winFeaturs);

LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(this.linkNodeURI, this.showType,null, null, link.winFeaturs);

top.LSAPI.AFPPlugin.service.navigate(node,node.getShowType(),'ExecuteLocally=true');

can I change all the LSAPI references to window.top.location="/irj/portal?NavigationTarget="+node ?

Will it work without breaking the DTN functionality?

Omri
